Snow & Ice
First the snow and then enough rain to freeze and create some rind ice, producing effects easily seen in my backyard and the streets nearby. Kaia and Frank found the snow to be a blast but the ensuing day's coating of ice left their canine studded paws short of full traction so I blazed backyard trails with my boots. Capturing these photos of rind ice was easy compared to similar attempts 40 years ago at -25 degrees during a North Dakota winter. The magazine lost those hard-earned images and I was left with fingertip damage that can act up in the mid-thirties to this day.
